Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No.2

15A- Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No.2

1.       Since I am targeting Students and Faculty that attend the University of Florida, the Geographical segment is Gainesville Fl.
a.     My first interview was a student that scooter parks in the Rawlings Garage. He stated that although there are a couple of spread out lots throughout the first and ground floor, that each lot has nowhere near enough spots to find a spot in. timely manner. Since many students live around this area, it makes finding a spot even more difficult, for vehicles stay parked overnight and for days at a time. The student suggested that creating scooter parking on the floors accompanying the cars would create optimal space and take advantage of a multilevel garage that is already there.
b.     The second interview conducted was of a student that has a car and scooter up at UF. She parks her car and scooter in the Rawlings Garage, however claims to never touch her car because finding a spot at night for a car in a garage with your decal is much more difficult than finding a place to house your scooter for the night on campus. This brought up a point that was valid for time in the day and finding parking is much more tricky than finding parking in the night time, especially for different types of vehicles.
c.     The final interview was of a faculty member who parks in the stadium garage. He states that there are multiple colored decal requirements for cars around the stadium and only one for scooters. While there may be less parking for scooters there is less parking spaces for cars in certain areas. The faculty member suggested there be less decal colors or decals assigned to a certain group of people at the university as in faculty, students, athletes etc., per area. Such as a certain number of faculty spots near the stadium a long with a designated spots for students etc.
2.     All these interviewees buy their decals from the same Parking and Transportation center on UF’s campus. After analyzing their concerns I believe that if more expensive decals were available for a guaranteed parking space then many students/faculty would be inclined to them. The only difference being that the more expensive “elite” decal would have a max number that can be purchased.
3.     The most common complaint of parking is that there seems to be no maximum as to how many decals are sold but there is an actual maximum amount of spots, which makes lots for either car or scooter/motorcycle parking high in traffic.
4.     In the end of the day there are students who still need to get to school and a vehicle is there only way of doing so, therefore buying a decal is required. However other students/faculty see this high demand for parking and see not enough of it, and many do resort into not driving to campus, bringing a vehicle up from home to Gainesville or ultimately buying a scooter. If more parking was made then these negative factors would lessen.

  1. Hey Melody,

I like how you organized this post. It clearly answers all the needed questions and list your interviews separately with make them very easy to find and distinguish between. I like your conclusion that states each part of the interviews that you have found helpful in figuring out the buyer behavior for this particular segment. I should have listed the questions separately after my conclusion like yours to show clearly that I answered them, but I just included it in my conclusion. Great work!

  2. Hi Melody! Your post was very organized, and the summaries of your interviews seem to provide information that is very useful to you. I also find it interesting how one of your interviewees mentioned a structural detail that would provide more parking for scooters on different garage floors. Having to sell a maximum number of decals to match the number of parking spaces on campus would be very convenient as well.

  3. Melody, I like how you formatted your response -- it's clear what your goal was beforehand, and what your results were. At UF we have the policy, you have a right to hunt for a parking spot with a decal, you aren't automatically given one. Secondly, I enjoyed how thorough your interviews were especially with the faculty member.
