Celebrating Failure
26A- Celebrating Failure
I would say
the failure that is looming over my head this semester is Orgo 1. Although the
majority of the class does technically fail each exam with exam averages ranging
from 55-60%, its hard acting like those grades are good enough to say you have an
understanding in the subject. It’s as if time and time again no matter how hard
I study I don’t get the results I want. My professor is of course the professor
who hates study edge and says it’s a waste of money because in other words, his
teaching is sufficient. Reality is, we all learn different and study edge for
me has been a supplement and another way of explaining something I might have
not been clear about before. Overall, I am still enrolled in the course while numerous
students have dropped, however it’s hard to see with grades such as these, if I
am really grasping this information, for it will appear on the OAT I have to
take next summer.
I believe
this class has given me a bit of reality of what optometry school will be like.
Science courses just get harder from here so I must take this failure and adapt
to it and notice what isn’t working and change it. Failure isn’t permanent and
if you set your mind to improving than there will be improvement. I believe this
course has shown me that failure has many faces, meaning that while you may
fail in one aspect it doesn’t mean that everything you are doing for your class,
company, product is wrong. Taking risks and changing things that seem to be
routine are okay if it will improve things as a whole!
Hey Melody,
ReplyDeleteGreat job looking back at the failure of this semester and reflecting upon it! I have heard Orgo 1 to be an extremely hard class here at the University of Florida, but your failure is normal due to the class average. I like how you looked back and reflected on the class and how it will almost mirror what optometry school will be like for you in the future. Keep working at it!
Hi Melody! That sounds really tough. I’ve heard Orgo 1 is a super hard class at UF. I have friends who are taking it right now and are going through the same struggles you have. I like your reflection on your failure in the class, and I also like how you addressed study materials such as Study Edge. I personally have never used it for any of my classes, but I agree with you that it’s more of a supplement than anything.
ReplyDeletehi melody! I also can relate to this. Im currently in business finance and its very difficult to get good grades on the exam. Even though the majority of the class does not do well on the exams i agree its hard to look at these grades. I have tried to study very hard but ive come to accept that the professor makes the class way harder than it needs to be.
